Candy Cane Express Frequently Asked Questions

CANDY CANE EXPRESS TRAINS

Event Information

When:
Trains depart at Noon, 1:30pm, and 3:00pm in November and December.

Where:
Departure is from the original 1870 V&T depot in Virginia City at 166 F Street, next to the impressive large brick St. Mary’s Church.

What is the cancellation policy?
Unfortunately due to the popularity of this event there are no refunds or cancellations.

How do the online reservations work?
Please bring your online confirmation number, or receipt, or just your name with I.D. to the depot “will call” window to pick up your reserved tickets. Please arrive about ½ hour early and be prepared to board on time.

Can I buy tickets the day of the event?
Yes, if there are any available. We will not know until the train is boarded.

How much does it cost?
We are selling tickets in packs of two-seater and 4-seater. All packs have minimal processing fees to cover credit card costs. Children under two are FREE if they sit on parents lap and they do not count as a seat. So for example, 4 adults with 2 children under two only would need to purchase the 4 seater.

Are there limitations to the 100-year-old train cars?
They are heated but there are no onboard bathrooms or diaper changing facilities.  Pets are not allowed. Due to the age of the historical equipment please call ahead for special needs.

There is a gift shop at the depot.

What happens if the weather is bad?
Snow, wind, cold, ice and rain are possible. Please check weather conditions before your visit and dress accordingly. Please prepare for winter and holiday road and traffic conditions. Click here for Nevada Road Conditions website.

The V & T Candy Cane Express operates as scheduled, regardless of weather.  In the event the train is unable to operate you will be notified immediately and given a complete refund or the opportunity to reschedule.  If the train is canceled it may be posted on our website by 10 am the day of the event.

Where can we eat in Virginia City?
The town offers many great restaurants on the main street, open before or after the ride and just a short distance from the train station.

What else is there to do in Virginia City?
Stroll the old wooden boardwalks, grab a bite to eat, visit a museum and of course Holiday shop in the many unique stores for that special gift.

What about Groups?
Group members should arrive early to ensure smooth seating aboard the train.  You can reserve an entire train car with seating for seventy.

Is VIP service available?
A very special VIP private car is not available this season.
